Hey! I’m Jeff. I like to build things. Not just out of wood and rock, but those are some of my favorite mediums. I’ve also built three different educational ventures. I like teaching and learning, and started this website as a way to share some of the things I’ve learned and also, hopefully, as a platform for my own ongoing education in a variety of categories, including:
- Woodworking and carpentry
- Food production and edible landscaping
- Forestry
- Small-scale energy, homesteading, and self-sufficiency
Many of my articles document various projects at my property in Litchfield County, CT. It is a former dairy farm with a barn and farmhouse dating to the 1850s. The hand-hewn chestnut post and beam structures and numerous field stone walls are a daily reminder to me of the labor and craftsmanship that was considered a basic life skill only a few generations ago.
This website is about celebrating the virtue of learning new things and the satisfaction of doing something yourself. It is less about making the perfect home, and more about inspiring a discovery of self through the act of doing.
